Update: 6-28-11: Blacky had her surgery on 6-22-11. She had three tumors removed, at that time. One was a "no concern" fatty tumor. One was a last minute surprise that was found during surgery.....a mammary tumor that was benign. Thank God!! But, the last tumor, which was located on her chest, turned out to be a mast cell tumor (Stage 1). The margins were not comletely clean. So, we are looking for an adopter for Blacky who will merely keep an eye on the tumor site to watch for any signs of regrowth. Other than that....she is good to go!! Update: 6-6-11 - Blacky was seen by our rescue vet today and it was determined that she has two small tumors that should probably be removed. Her bloodwork was perfect and she is now scheduled for surgery on June 22nd. Donations are being accepted to put towards Blacky's surgery. She should be available for adoption by sometime early in July. 5-31-11 - How do you explain to those warm brown eyes that her presence was no longer wanted in her home? How do you tell this loving girl that she has no warm bed to call her own and that she must spend her nights lonely and confused in a kennel at a high kill shelter? Nothing could have prepared poor Blacky for the life she was living. . . the life of a shelter dog. It was loud, scary, and ever changing. However, little Blacky, being the trooper that she is, took it all in stride. She knew that her rescue was coming quickly. We are so honored to have been there when she needed us. Though just a little timid at first, you quickly come to know that Blacky does one thing very, very well. . . she is the perfect snuggler!! Blacky loves to be in your lap and we think she would love to spend the most of her days there. As she is an older dog, eight years old, so we are hoping that she does not get overlooked. That would really be a shame, since prospective new families would really be missing out. Blacky has so very much love to offer her new family, as well as many happy years to come. Don't you need a snuggle buddy in bed with you to ward off all of those bad dreams? Well Blacky is the perfect one to comfort you in any time of need. This baby is sweet, lovable, AND itty bitty! She only weighs about 10 pounds so she is perfect for most any type of home. Please consider giving this girl just the few bare minimum things she is asking for: a full belly, a warm lap, and most of all, a loving forever home. Isn't she worth it? Blacky will be available for adoption on June 4th.
